WWF Green Ambassador WOKING AWARD 2015
10th July 2015
The children of The Oaktree School were declared the winners of the Green Ambassadors Award for Woking and received a cheque for £1,000 towards our environmental work. We are delighted to now have the money to be able to get the wind turbine working on our recycled bus.
Basic Skills Quality Award 2015
We were delighted to welcome Mrs Sue Bailey a Quality Mark Assessor to the school to ensure we are still teaching the basic skills to children to the required level for our Quality Mark to be renewed. We are delighted that she judged that we had met or exceeded all 10 elements.
Mrs Bailey met with key members of staff and governors as well as undertaking a learning walk and talking with children. All of our children were so articulate about their learning and we were very proud of them. The School Council also met with Mrs Bailey and were able to explain how they assess their learning and how they know what their next steps are.
There were no action points from our last assessment for us to meet but Mrs Bailey wrote that ‘The school was extremely well prepared for the Renewal visit. ‘ She was very complimentary about the way we track our children’s progress and put in place ‘closing the gap’ interventions to ensure that children make good or outstanding progress.
Our development point was:
‘Within the current national context of numerous educational initiatives, governors & senior leaders will continue to plan systematically and effectively for all pupils’ attainment & progress in the Basic Skills. ‘
As you know there have been and are lots of changes to the education system. Mrs Bailey was suggesting that our development point was to carry on ensuring that our children receive the high quality of teaching and learning experiences that they are receiving now.
