What is the Role of a Link Parent?
The purpose of a Link Parent is to act as a communication channel between parents and school. It allows parents to put their views to the senior management team and staff on school plans, as well as giving school managers a means of asking parents for their views on specific topics. This group has not been brought together to report specific parental concerns. Teachers are always outside at the end of the day and a member of the School Leadership Team are in the ECO lobby at the beginning of the day and they will always deal with any concerns.
Although, Link Parents do help HOPA find helpers for big events they are separate from HOPA and from the school governors. HOPA exists to organise extra-curricular events and raise funds for the school. The Governors have responsibility for the management of the school, setting policy and overseeing budgets. Link Parents do not have any decision-making powers or financial resources; their main purpose is the sharing of ideas and information.
In the first instance Link Parents are used by the school to ‘trial’ ideas and plans with a cross section of the school’s parent community. This will help the school to gauge feedback for plans from the parents before proposals become policy. The Link Parents will informally gather general views, including positive comments and concerns from parents, and bring these to the meetings for discussion. The group cannot deal with individual issues; if the Link Parent or one of the other parents has a specific matter concerning a child, they should follow the normal route of taking it up with your class teacher in the first instance.
Link Parents may sometimes be asked, by their class teacher, to see if any parents can help with specific events.
We are very grateful to the parents who have agreed to undertake the role this year.
