Year 1

This week we will be thinking about the big change that is about to happen, from being the youngest children in the school in Reception, then moving to Year 1 and now growing into Year 2 children! The above transition booklets will give you a chance to think about the fantastic learning and fun times you have had in Year 1 and begin to think ahead to what life in Year 2 will be like when you start back at school in September.

  • Can you draw a picture of yourself on the front cover and write your name?
  • Can you write about the thing or things you most enjoyed learning about this year?
  • What is your favourite memory from Reception? Can you write about it and draw a picture?
  • Now read about what will be the same and different in Year 1.
  • Next, what are looking forward to in your new class?
  • Is there anything you are not sure about or don't know. Can you write a question that you would like answered?

Well done! Colour in three extra bonus point on your Alien Challenge for completing the booklet and making it successfully to the end of your first year in school!

We have also attached a ‘One Page Profile’ to aid your transition back to school in September. Please ask your parents to help you complete this and bring it with you on your first day of school.

We hope you have a super Summer Holiday!

With best wishes,

From all of us in the Year 1 team

Please see below the weekly planning for Year 1.

When planning and creating the resources our teachers have tried to take into consideration the range of needs and possible challenges that may arise for families during this time.

Please interpret the planning and resources on an individual and personalised basis. As a family you can choose how much or how little time you spend on activities each day following your child’s interests. As a guide we have provided a suggested timetable, however please feel free to choose times to suit you and your family.

There may be additional or alternative activities that you may do with your child and this is welcomed by our teaching team. We would love to see any photos of any further creative learning that your child completes. Thank you so much to the parents who have already sent us photos of their child's home learning. We hope that other parents have also enjoyed seeing these in our Newsletter or on our Facebook page.

If you have any questions, or require additional support or guidance with your child's home learning, please contact the year group email ( A Year 1 teacher will be available during school hours Monday-Friday to reply to you on an individual basis.

Thank you for your on-going support.
